Chennai Super Kings clinched a 10-run win over Deccan Chargers at Chepauk to break into the top four of the Indian Premier League standings.
After the Super Kings batted first and posted 160-6 off their 20 overs, the Chargers put up a gallant chase courtesy of top-scorer Cameron White's 77 off 53.
But the Victorian's heroics went in vain as his side were unable to haul in the sizeable target, finishing their chase at 150-5.
After Albie Morkel (1-16) dismissed opener Parthiv Patel for one, Shikhar Dhawan (36) and White piled on the runs to build a 68-run stand for the second wicket.
Dhawan's knock came to an end in the 11th over after he was short of the crease courtesy a Dwayne Bravo throw.
Kumar Sangakkara was quick to depart after a stunning caught-and-bowled from Suresh Raina sent the skipper back for just a single.
White, along with compatriot Dan Christian (27 not out), kept the scoreboard ticking over.
But with 29 required off the last two overs, White's gutsy knock came to an end after he was run-out with 26 needed off nine.
While Christian struck a boundary in the penultimate over, 20 runs off the last six deliveries was no easy task as Ben Hilfenhaus (1-31) did well to deny the hosts.
Earlier, Chennai posted 6-160 after Faf du Plessis top-scored with 42 off 35, while Veer Pratap Singh claimed 2-35 for the Chargers.
Chennai lost opener Murali Vijay (14 off 11) before Du Plessis and Raina (32) put on a 64-run partnership for the second wicket.
However, after a couple of boundaries and sixes, Amit Mishra cleaned Raina up in the 10th over.
Du Plessis saw the team past 100 before he fell in the 14th over to give Pratap Singh his second, and Morkel (13) stayed on for a brief period with skipper MS Dhoni (34).
But Abhishek Jhunjhunwala ousted the South African to leave the Super Kings at 124-4 at the end of 15 overs.
Dhoni fell after a well-fought innings before Dwayne Bravo smashed a valuable 12 off four to take the defending champions to a competitive total.
